"Wexford Lady" Aveling & Porter F Type Steam Roller to diesel power conversion. While not exactly an elegant solution to extending a Steam Rollers useful working life, diesel conversions such as that pictured above were not uncommon. The engine used in this conversion would appear to be a 1950's four cylinder Ford Diesel such as those fitted to the Fordson Major tractors. Such conversions usually entailed drastic alterations to the Steam Roller, even if the parts which were removed at the time of conversion are available, converting back to steam is a very expensive undertaking requiring the manufacture of many new parts. |
